In addition to interviewing individuals for the communities in Southwest Florida, I also write a trend article to go in the Community Lifestyle issues. For our January issue, we focused on Valentine’s Day. This article was fun to write . . . I had to interview quite a few business owners about what the trend is for this year.

There is a plethora of jewelry for individuals to choose from this Valentine’s Day that is guaranteed to leave a smile on their loved ones face.
Bradley Jewelers Owner Brad Congress said engagement rings are always a big hit for Valentine’s Day. He explained that diamond stacking bands are very popular this year.
The bands are popular, Congress explained, because individuals can use existing rings and dress it up by putting two different diamond bands around it to create something completely different. His customers are also purchasing a new ring and placing two diamond stacking bands on either side.
“We are noticing a lot of people looking at engagement rings,” Travis Jewelers Brand Manager Ryan Pinto said.
He said they are seeing a trend of individuals going back to the basics in terms of engagement sets. Pinto said diamond solitaries in a Tiffany style mounting is simple, but yet elegant and beautiful.
Diamond earrings and diamond solitaire pendants, Congress said are also great Valentine’s Day gifts.
“Diamond hoops are always popular,” he said.
Zaks Jewelers Vice President Alison Polo said diamond stud earrings are always a good gift for Valentine’s Day.
Something new this year, dancing diamond necklaces also make a good present.
“It’s a diamond that is hung in such a way that it constantly moves and constantly catches a light,” she said of the necklace.
Polo said chocolate diamonds are also popular.
In the past six months to a year, rose gold designs have also experienced an increase in popularity.
“We found that rose gold is definitely on the trending hot for Valentine’s Day,” Congress said. “The color of rose gold is a real natural fit. That is going to be big.”
White and yellow gold are also among the colors individuals can choose from this Valentine’s Day.
Estate jewelry makes another great Valentine’s gift.
“You can find something truly one of a kind,” Congress said. “If it’s in the estate case, I can’t order it again.”
His case ranges from simple gold charms to an exotic diamond pin from the 1950’s. Congress said it’s interesting when customers look at their estate case.
“They can’t believe how many varieties of jewelry they get to chose from, from something simple to crazy,” he said. “When you don’t know what to get someone, go to the estate case.”
Polo said they also have a large estate jewelry collection, which ranges from vintage diamond rings, to gold watches to antique diamond bracelets.
Lily & Company Owner Dan Schulyer said they are not like your average jewelry store, but rather a gallery that offers one of kind wearable art pieces from local and around-the-world artists.
“The great thing is they have a wonderful selection of 25 international designers throughout the gallery,” he said. “We have a wide range of artistic jewelry to choose from whether you want to go to Turkey, Germany or Israel . . . handcrafted jewelry from world renowned designers.”
Some of the popular pieces for Valentine’s Day, as well as year round, come from their sea inspired pieces – dolphins and sand dollars.
“They are looking for an island experience,” he said. “Most of the time they want to take home a piece of the island. A lot of our jewelry is relationship based.”
For the past four years, Lily & Company has held a “Save the Males” event at the gallery for Valentine’s Day. This year it will be held on Wednesday Feb. 12 through Friday, Feb. 14.
“It’s a one stop shop for guys,” Schulyer said. “We have a Valentine’s Day package ready for them.”
The package includes Norman Love chocolates, a balloon, stuffed teddy bear, as well as a Valentine’s Day card that they get to choose.
The event will feature Beny Sofer, which is a four-generation diamond business out of New York City.
Schulyer said diamond earrings, bracelets and necklaces make a good Valentine’s Day gift.
Denny Wong, a wonderful artist out of Hawaii, will also be a part of event. He will have his precious metals and gems collection, as well as his sea inspired jewelry for those Valentine’s Day shoppers.
This year, Schulyer said they will also introduce their new Hershey Kiss’s jewelry collection. The collection includes pendants, earrings and bracelets.
